Native American Women

What vision of Native American women does the film portray?


I believe that the film portrays Native American women as independent.  Like Louise, she wants a child, but she wants to do it on her own.  She doesn't need a man to help her, or a man to be married to.  Yes, she does want a man in her life, if she finds the right one, but she doesn't need them to take care of her or her child. 
Just like in the book Green Grass, Running Water, Alberta didn't need a man.  She only wanted a child, but no marriage.  She was an independent woman also, like Louise.  She was dating both Charlie and Lionel, but she didn't want to marry either of them, she only wanted to have a child and that was it.
